The Dominion KX II enables KVM-over-IP access, with BIOS level control, to Dell, HP and IBM blade servers. The blade servers are displayed by chassis and slot. Also available is a remote connection to the blade chassis administration module and to three user-defined web links.

For blade servers that support a connection to individual blade servers (HP and certain Dell blade servers), the "View By Group" tab displays the blade servers of a given chassis. On-click, BIOS-level KVM access is available. Virtual media and absolute mouse synchronization are supported.

Port Configuration

Port Configuration

The “Port Configuration” page is used to configure ports connected to blade chassis. The user will select the type of blade server and configure appropriately. Certain blade chassis support automatic discovery of the blade servers, otherwise blades can be configured manually.

Links to Management Module and User-defined URLs

Links to Management Module and User-defined URLs

Blade chassis managed links can be configured to provide in-band access to the management module of the blade chassis in addition to three user defined URLs.

Create a Port Group

Create a Port Group

The “Port Group” feature is for blade servers for which a CIM is connected to each blade – HP and certain Dell blade servers. The ports connected to a given chassis are grouped together for convenient access. Port groups can also be created for non-blade ports also. For example a user could group servers by function, location or organization.

Define Port Permissions

Define Port Permissions

Port permissions are configured using the “Port Permissions” section of the Group page. Port permissions can be set on a per-blade level. So one group could access the blades in slots 1-7, while another has access to slots 8-14.

Audit Log

Audit Log

The “Audit Log” contains a list of the Dominion KX II user and system events. When blade auto-discovery is configured, dynamic blade status updates are supported. For example, if a blade is added or removed from the chassis, the KX II is notified and an event will logged in the “Audit Log.”

Remote Access via CommandCenter Secure Gateway

The Dominion KX II’s blade server feature is available to users with and without the CC-SG management system. Blade chassis and blade servers configured in the Dominion KX II can be accessed through CC-SG. This page shows an out-of-band blade server connection available through the KX II. In addition CC-SG users can define in-band and embedded connections to the blade server. VMWare virtual machines running on blades are even supported!
